QAS Finish With Big Win

The Queensland Academy of Sport are set to claim back-to-back Toyota Futures League titles with a comprehensive win over the ACT Comets today at Allan Border Field.

The QAS needed just two of the four days allocated for the 2nd XI match, routing the Comets for 67 yesterday with Wests paceman Brendan Doggett taking 5-12 as he swung the Duke balls at pace. That was followed by a Chris Lynn century which underpinned a solid first innings reply of 286 by the home side.

Brisbane Heat star Lynn scored a classy 124 off 118 in his return from a neck injury, hitting 21 fours and two sixes, with both maximums only coming after he reached triple figures.

The right-hander was well backed by Valley keeper/batsman Lachlan Pfeffer who hit an enterprising 99 in his Futures League debut, as the pair scored the bulk of Queensland’s 286 to put them on top.

Today, the Comets lifted a gear to score 245, courtesy of Ben Manenti (64), Michael Spaseski (63 n.o.) and John Rogers (55) before the QAS openers wiped off the 27 runs needed for the outright win.

Queensland all-rounder Michael Neser notched 3-31 to give him seven wickets for the match after he took 4-22 in the first innings, while Doggett added 3-50 to his tally to make it an eight-wicket haul for the game.

The QAS led the competition coming into the final round.
