Wests Chase Title

Western Suburbs are well positioned to stake a claim for their first my FootDr Premier Cricket title in almost a decade, at half way of the competition decider against University of Queensland.

Despite losing the opening day due to rain, Wests finished at 6-287 after the second day of their four-day clash at Allan Border Field at the weekend.

Chasing their first title since 2007-08, Wests had to push through early batting yips with openers Anthony Atkinson (0) and captain Patrick Collins (15) dismissed cheaply.

However rookie Queensland batsman Sam Truloff (113) lived up to his reputation as one of the competition’s most consistent scorers with his century, resurrecting Wests’ innings along with former Heat all-rounder Chris Sabburg (88).

Wicketkeeper Justin Frew (29no) also contributed, while University skipper Michael Philipson was the pick of the Students’ bowlers with 4-53.

Play continues at Allan Border Field on Saturday.
