QCCA Competitions
XXXX Country Cup
The annual North versus South battle is waged over this prized piece of silverware. South have had the better of this battle over the years and won 14 consecutive titles before North hit back in 2005 and 2006.
Many fine players have been involved in these clashes including
- Andy Bichel - the last player to play for Country and then go on to represent the Bulls and Australia
- Brad Inwood - a former Queensland Shield player who went on to not only play in this competition but captain Queensland Country to victory in the then ACB Country Cricket Championships
- Errol Harris - a former Tasmanian Shield player who went on to play Country cricket
- Brian May - the leading run scorer in Australian Country Championships pictured above. A prolific batsmen who is setting records that may never be beaten
- Michael Warden - the leading wicket taker in Australian Country Championships. Like Brian, he established benchmarks that will probably be out of reach of future generations of country cricketers
- Terry Oliver - the current Bulls coach represented Queensland Country as a player and a coach.
Platypus Shield U19 Country Championship
This competition between the best emerging talent in the respective regions of the State is proudly sponsored by Platypus, the official ball supplier fo Country cricket.
Ron Bushby Shield U17 Country Championship
This competition is named in honour of one of the great stalwarts of country cricket.
Gary Madsen Shield - Development Squad
This squad is chosen with an eye to the future and gains experience in an annual series against a visiting State Institute. The first five years were played against the Victorian Institue of Sport, but from 2007 the ACT AIS is the rival.
