Ipswich-Logan allrounder Worrin Williams will captain the Queensland Imparja Cup team for the national Indigenous cricket championships in Alice Springs in February. It is the second year in a row that the 26-year-old Williams has led Queensland in the titles, which will be held from February 17 to 24. A former Queensland Bulls rookie contracted player and Queensland 2nd XI player, Williams toured England with the Australian Indigenous side in 2009 along with fellow allrounders Cameron Trask (Wynnum-Manly) and Preston White (Toombul), who has also played 2nd XI cricket for Queensland. Trask and Redlands paceman Jake Kubinek both toured India recently with the National Indigenous Talent squad. Teenage Gympie allrounder Carlin Anderson, a member of the Queensland Under-17 team currently playing at the national titles in Hobart, makes the Imparja Cup side for the second year in a row. Teenage Norths batsman Lachlan McRae, a Nudgee College First XI player, is the only player to make his first trip to Alice Springs in the Imparja Cup team. McRae first came to the notice as an eight-year-old, when he attended a “come and try” session at Allan Border Field as part of the long-running Eddie Gilbert Talent ID Program run by Queensland Cricket. Experienced performers in the side include Sunshine Coast paceman Ashley Renouf, one of the leading wicket-takers so far in the Premier Grade, evergreen Cairns allrounder Glen Martin and Townsville wicket-keeper/batsman Brad Stout, a Queensland Country Brahmans representative player. Former Queensland pace bowler Michael Mainhardt will again coach the side. Queensland finished second last season and won a hat-trick of titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and then back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009.
