Coaching Cricket
Courses
Recognised accreditation has become a basic pre-requisite for aspiring coaches, and Cricket Australia, together with Queensland Cricket, have a range of courses to suit participants at a variety of levels.
Orientation to Coaching Course (Level 0): - Non Accredited Course $ FREE
The Orientation to Coaching Course is now available on-line and is targeted at individuals embarking on coaching for the first time.
It provides participants with an introduction to the fundamentals of coaching children and contributing to skill development, and aims to equip adults with the necessary skills and information to become actively involved with their children's development in an introductory cricket program.
It is lots of fun and a genuine contributor to the development of skills which are required to supervise and instruct children whilst playing and practising cricket in a safe environment.

There are presently three (3) levels of official coaching accreditation in Australia:
Development Coaching Course (Level I): - Accreditated Course $99
The Level One (Development) Coaching Course is directed towards coaches at under-age and community cricket level.
These coaches will be relatively new to coaching and wish to broaden their knowledge of the technical skills of the game, understand appropriate and effective ways to conduct sessions, and gain an awareness of the factors motivating young people to play and enjoy cricket.
The course includes a series of on-line presentations on non-cricket specific components, followed by interactive practical sessions on the skills of the game, and a number of tasks for candidates to undertake as part of their assessment.
Candidates are instructed in the key areas of Principles of Coaching; Principles of Teaching; Communication Skills and Group Management; Physical Training; and Coaching Cricket.
The pre-requisites for the Level 1 Course are that all participants must be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date that the course is completed and must consent to abiding by Australian and State/Territory Government legislation in relation to screening of coaches and agreement to undergoing a Police Check.

Advanced Coaching Course (Level 2): - Accreditated Course $350
The next Level 2 Coaching Course will be held from Monday 18 to Friday 22 October 2010.
The Level 2 (Advanced) Coaching Course is designed for coaches involved at levels of the player pathway which feed into the high performance levels of cricket - coaches involved in premier grade clubs, district/squad programs or representative teams.
The Australian Sports Commission’s Level 2 General Principles course manual, 'Better Coaching – Advanced Coach’s Manual – Second Edition (Ed. Frank Pyke)' will continue as a key reference but is accompanied by a cricket-specific Workbook.
Many of the units previously covered separately are now integrated into the new Cricket Australia Level 2 (Advanced) Coaching Course.
As part of the pre-course requirements, candidates must register with playbytherules.net.au and complete the free on-line training for coaches.
A Play By The Rules Certificate (available on-line once requirements are met) must be provided to the Course Supervisor to confirm that this has been successfully completed.
It is also a requirement that coaches agree to abide by the Cricket Australia Coach’s Code of Behaviour to satisfy accreditation under the NCAS.

Cricket Coaches Australia – Coaches Network
Queensland Cricket recognises the significant role of coaches at all levels of the game.
Research over many years has indicated the impact (both negative if a ‘poor’ coach, and positive if a ‘good’ coach) upon enabling youngsters in particular to stay in the game.
We also recognise that a coaching ‘course’ is only one step in the process of assisting coaches to become more proficient.
Cricket Coaches Australia (CCA) has been established as a means to support coaches through on-going educational opportunities and ultimately through recognition of excellence at all levels of involvement.
As Cricket Coaches Australia (CCA) continues to develop over the coming months and years it will become a major source of coach education and recognition throughout the country.
Coaches registered with CCA can look forward to the following benefits being phased in:
CCA Seminars / Workshops
Qld Cricket is a recognised branch of Cricket Coaches Australia and will offer seminars and workshops as a means of continuing education (“updating”) on a range of topics related to both theory and practice of coaching.
Where possible, these CCA seminars/workshops will be promoted via coaching networks and through the QC website. Such workshops and seminars will be an integral part of updating a coach’s accreditation.
In addition to access to further education, Cricket Australia and Qld Cricket will provide benefits to members redeemable through the use of membership cards. These benefits will be announced through the Overview, websites and perhaps through direct mail soon.
Electronic Newsletters / Website Information
An aim of CCA is to move to an electronic format for provision of Overview and to enable a community of coaches (members) to be able to share information, training activities and ideas.
Designated areas of the website will provide coaching resources and information along with links to further excellent websites.
Annual Registration / Reaccreditation
As a means of better servicing accredited coaches who are actively coaching and to ease some of the finiancial strain on our volunteers, Queensland Cricket will be covering the costs for all active coaches wishing to reaccreditate.
This will be a saving of $30 to each coach, and will give them a two-year membership of CCA.
Currently, all coaches automatically become members of CCA for one year as they successfully complete a Cricket Australia accreditation course.
Under implementation is the following system.
To maintain that accreditation, all coaches would need to do is:
1. Maintain their membership of CCA each year, and
2. Continue to coach, and;
Level 1 coaches would need to provide details of the club/school team being coached (as part of registering with CCA);
Level 2 coaches would need to attend each year updating seminars/workshops, or act as a presenter at a Level 1 course, or
assist with an Orientation to Coaching course, or become a mentor coach (as recognised by QC’s Coaching & Education Coordinator).
Level 3 coaches would need to attend each year updating seminars/workshops, and assist as a presenter at Level 1 or Level 2 courses, or
assist as a presenter at CCA seminars/workshops, or act as an assessor of Level 1 or Level 2 coaches, or act as a mentor coach (as recognised by QC’s Coaching & Education Coordinator).
Note: All coaches can continue to be members of CCA, but the above would be required to maintain accreditation. An accredited coach who does not continue to coach in any particular year/s would need to apply for reaccreditation when resuming coaching activities.
