Queensland Country has claimed the bragging rights at the inaugural men’s T20 competition at the 2017 Commonwealth Bank Australian Country Cricket Championships, beating Western Australia Country in the decider in Wollongong. WA Country set the pace with a total of 148, including an 82-run opening stand from captain Jono Whitney (48) and Corey Rutgers (41). It came down to the final over for the Brahmans, Sean Fitzsimmons (45* from 24 balls) guiding them home with just two balls remaining. They are poised for similar success in the one day competition. With two matches remaining, Queensland Country is second on the one-day ladder behind New South Wales, and top of the overall rankings. The Queensland Country Women are in title contention in their Twenty20 competition, after wins against Victoria Country and South Australia Country today. They take on East Asia Pacific tomorrow, before the finals start on Wednesday.
