The domestic one-day competition, formerly the Matador Cup, will get underway in Brisbane from 27 September with the Bulls taking on the Cricket Australia XI on 29 September at Allan Border Field.
JLT Australia were today announced as the naming rights sponsor for the Sheffield Shield and one-day competitions.
The Bulls will play their opening two matches in Brisbane, four in Sydney and one in Hobart as part of the tournament style one-day competition that will be held in September and October and feature day/night matches in Sydney and Hobart.
The 116th Sheffield Shield season will launch with a day-night round on 26 October at the Gabba with Queensland hosting defending title holders Victoria in the only day-night Sheffield Shield round this season.
The Bulls also play a JLT Sheffield Shield game against NSW at Allan Border Field from 13-16 November in what is likely to feature two full-strength line-ups in the last first class game before the opening Magellan Ashes Test match between Australia and England at the Gabba in November.
Cairns will become the third regional Queensland city in as many years to host a Sheffield Shield match.
The JLT Sheffield Shield game between the Bulls and the West End Redbacks from South Australia will be held at Cazalys Stadium from Sunday 3 December through to Wednesday 6 December.
Cairns will join Mackay (2015) and Townsville (2016) as the only venues outside of metropolitan Brisbane to host games in the Sheffield Shield, the domestic first class competition in Australia.
Cazalys Stadium last hosted official first class cricket more than a decade ago, although was the venue of a three-day warm-up game for Pakistan ahead of the first day/night Test at the Gabba last season.
A bonus points system will continue for the Sheffield Shield, with 0.1 bonus points awarded for every wicket taken in the first 100 overs of an innings (for a maximum of 1.0 bowling bonus points per innings), and 0.01 for every run above 200 in the first 100 overs.
Following the successful trial of Dukes balls in the second half of the Shield last season, they will again be used from Round 6 to improve players’ adaptability.
As previously announced, the Women’s National Cricket League will be played in two blocks, either of the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League with the Konica Minolta Queensland Fire playing away in the pre-WBBL window.
The Queensland Academy of Sport will again compete in the Toyota Futures League 2nd XI competition with matches being held at Allan Border Field, the Gabba and Bill Pippen Oval at Kerrydale on the Gold Coast which will host a Futures League game for the first time in November.
