Queensland has opened its 2017 National Indigenous Cricket Championship (NICC) campaign with a loss to New South Wales in Alice Springs. In a rematch of last year’s NICC grand final, Queensland suffered the same result despite a spirited bowling effort. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Queensland opener Preston White produced a stunning 50 off 63 balls.   It was the highlight of an otherwise dour innings dominated by New South Welshmen Ben Mitchell (4/10) and Djali Bloomfield (2/15), who kept Queensland to a 127-run total.   Despite a five-wicket haul from Warrin Williams (5/29), Queensland was unable to reign in the New South Wales batsmen, who reached their target in the 44th over at nine wickets down.   Queensland faces Victoria today, while the Queensland Indigenous women’s side will start their campaign against the Northern Territory on Thursday.
