Townsville left-arm slow bowler Brendan Haylett has helped spin Queensland to a pair of wins on the opening days of the National Under-17 championships on the Sunshine Coast,
Haylett took three wickets in each match as Queensland claimed a double-bonus point win over the Northern Territory yesterday and a solid victory over Victorian Country today.
Queensland opened the tournament with a comprehensive win over the Northern Territory, posting 7-273 before dismissing their opponents for just 99.
Gold Coast duo Max Conder (70) and Hugo Burdon (54), plus skipper Max Clayton (38), led the way for Queensland with the bat.
Queensland’s bowling attack shared the wickets, with Haylett claiming 3-27.
Haylett finished with 3-34 from 10 overs today as Queensland bowled out Victorian Country for 212 in reply to their total of 9-255.
Allrounder Tom Olsen was handy with 2-36 as well for Queensland.
Earlier, their batting effort saw a number of starts with Hugo Burdon (43), Jack Cooper (38), Max Conder (36) and Will Sanders (29) contributing handy runs.
Queenslanders in the Cricket Australia XI have also enjoyed a good start, with Sandgate-Redcliffe allrounder Mitch Pascoe taking four wickets in the CA XI's win overt Vic Metro yesterday and one wicket in their win over Tasmania.
Queensland have a rest day tomorrow before meeting undefeated NSW Metro in a repeat of last year's Final won by NSW.
