The Shell Green match is a joint initiative between the Australian Defence Force and the Brookfield Cricket Club and commemorates Anzac Day and the contribution of Australian service men and women.
The match is named in recognitition of the famous game of cricket played by Australian troops during World War One at the site at Gallipoli now known as Shell Green.
On December 17 1915, a game of cricket was held at Shell Green as a diversionary tactic during preparations for an evacuation, however the match was abandoned after Turkish shells landed close by.

The game features a Lord Mayor XI taking on the Brookfield Cricket Club, with Queensland cricketers Beth Mooney and Lee Carseldine turning out in the 2018 edition.
The ANZAC Day Shell Green match is well attended and supported by the Brisbane community and in 2018 was named the Brisbane Lord Mayor Australia Day Community Event of the Year.
