Another strong innings from my FootDr Queensland Bulls and Brisbane Heat batsman Max Bryant has put the Queensland Under-19s on track to advance to the Finals of the national chanmpionships in Hobart.
Bryant top-scored with a calm 78 from 82 balls under lights to lead Queensland to victory over NSW Metro in a day/night clash at UTAS Stadium in Launceston yesterday.
Bryant and Ipswich’s Ben Maynard (53) held firm as Queensland chased down NSW Metro’s 191 all out with three wickets and more than 10 overs in hand.
Sydney Sixers rookie Jack Edwards top-scored with 51 for NSW Metro.
Valley paceman Donal Whyte claimed 4-26 while spinners Mitch Connolly (2-38) and Harry Macoun (2-37) produced a disciplined effort to tie down the NSW Metro batting line-up.
Queensland and ACT/NSW Country have finished on top of Pool A and Pool B respectively, with quarter finals locked in after five rounds of matches at the 2017-18 Under 19 National Championships in Tasmania.
Both Pool winners, Northern Territory, Cricket Australia XI and Victoria Country were on the winners’ list in Round 5 in Launceston on Sunday.
Meanwhile University of Queensland left-arm Matthew Willans was a stand-out for the Cricket Australia XI that defeated South Australia.
The towering Willians finished with 3-21 as SA were bundled out for 67 before the CA XI, comprised of players from the National Under-17 championships, finished with 4-68 in spite of highly-rated leg-spinner Lloyd Pope snaring 4-13.
