Edwards, who turns 19 today, will join fellow Queensland Bulls Rookie contracted fast bowler Connor Sully in the ranks of the squad which will be coached by John Davison and former English international Adam Hollioake.

Edwards, a right-arm fast bowler who played for the Australian Under-19 team last season, was a member of the Bulls JLT One Day Cup squad last month.

He and Queensland batsman Sam Heazlett were named earlier today as replacement players for the PM’s XI that will play South Africa next week in a one-day match at Manuka Oval in Canberra. The duo will join fellow Bulls player Max Bryant in the XI to take on the Proteas on Wednesday.

The Queensland team also contains towering 205cm left-arm pace bowler Matthew Willans who played for the Bulls in a pre-season practice game despite being in his final year of high school.

Sunshine Coast batsman Angus Lovell will captain the side, which contains two players in Gold Coast batsman Hugo Burdon and Toombul left-arm wrist spinner Ryan Walker who were members of the Queensland Under-17 team that finished as joint National champions earlier this month.

Walker, 16, was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

His Queensland U-17 teammate Sam Hatherall will also be in action at the U-19 championships after the Wynnum-Manly quick was named in the Cricket Australia XI following the U-17 titles.

Teenage Wynnum-Manly batsman Corey Hunter will play against his age group peers after a busy start to 2018-19 that saw him play for Queensland in pre-season practice matches and score a sparkling 141 for the Queensland Academy of Sport in the opening Toyota Futures League 2nd XI.
