University overcame Toombul in the two-day semi-final held over the weekend while Norths won an enthralling battle against Ipswich/Logan to book their spot in the decider.

Batting first, the Students fought hard to take their innings into the second day, with half centuries to opener Nic Sale (79), Jack Carty (63) and the evergreen Michael Philipson (55) as they reached 346 from 121 overs.

Toombul pace spearhead Chris Knight (3-87) and Under-19 quick Aubrey Stockdale (3-41) led the way with the ball.

Toombul made a stab at an unlikely chase of the target, but aside from Preston White (72) and Knight (30no), were unable to reel in the tally and were dismissed for 195.

Experienced quick Scott Walter (3-36) and Carty (3-43) picked up the bulk of the dismissals.

At Ian Healy Oval, Norths had to fight hard on the opening day after the Hornets, led by pacemen Adam Smith (2-46) and Sean Lutter (2-37) , had the home side 4-68 at one stage.

A brisk counter-attack from Josh Brown (64 from 72 balls) was followed by a patient performance from Sam Wilson, who hit 80 from 300 balls and worked with his lower order to take the home team's innings into the second day before Nick di Guisti (3-6) helped wrap up the innings for 266.

Needing a win to make the Final, the Hornets gave themselves every shot through a fighting 93 from allrounder Harry Wood and a hard-hitting 41 from Smith.

But the Hornets fell short, dismissed for 247 with Wood and Smith the last two wickets to fall.
