Dr. Sanjeev Bandi and his group, MOV-ing Mackay Cricket Club raised $91,731 for Movember in 2018, the highest of any cricket group in Australia and third overall.
Dr. Bandi himself raised $58,889 to be the Highest Individual Fund Raiser for the fourth straight year.
Movember, who are an Official Charity Partner of Australian Cricket, promotes and supports men’s health, specifically testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health, with individuals and teams raising funds by growing moustaches throughout November.
During the Brisbane Heat’s recent Women’s Big Bash League weekend in Mackay, Dr. Bandi was presented with two signed bats and a Movember trophy by Campaign Manager Sam Crowther and Mackay Cricket Association President Terry Doolan.

Crowther praised the work Dr. Bandi and his team were doing to improve men’s health in the Mackay Whitsundays region.
“The MOV-ing Mackay Cricket Club has done amazing things for Movember. They have been fundraising since 2011 and have raised over $460,000 since that time and they have been the highest fundraising team for a number of years.
“It speaks volumes of the Mackay community spirit and the way they are trying to change the way we look at men’s health.
“The money raised by Dr. Bandi will have a direct impact on the Mackay region through initiatives like the Movember True Nth Program, which supports men who are being treated for prostate and testicular cancer, both through their treatment and as they are recovering.
“We couldn’t be more grateful for everything they are achieving,” Crowther said.
For Dr. Bandi, a Urologist based in Mackay, Movember is a cause he is passionate to support as the money he raises has direct benefits to the local community.
“The reason I choose to support Movember is that when you raise money, you see that it funds programs in the communities where the money is raised. I think we are able to raise more and more money each year because our community has seen that it comes back and directly helps people from Mackay.
“Prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention are very important issues in Mackay. Not many people realise the suicide rate in Mackay is 8.9% higher than the national average. We are trying to raise awareness for these issues and change the perception that men can talk about their problems,” Dr. Bandi said.
Movember has been a partner of cricket in Australia for 11 years, over which time more than $1 million has been raised through the Cricket Cares Network, with over $329,000 being raised in 2018.
