QC’s total workforce will reduce by 29 per cent equating to 32 full time positions. Contracted, casual and support staff positions with QC’s elite teams, Community Cricket and Commercial and Marketing departments will continue to be offered throughout the cricket season, as has previously been the case.  

While QC is yet to finalise an updated funding agreement with CA, the organisational restructure has been made in acceptance of the inevitable 25 per cent decrease in grants from the national body, plus planning for a reduction in ticketing revenue from the Big Bash League season with uncertainty remaining over restrictions on mass gatherings for the 2020-21 summer.  

Though each department has been affected by staff changes, with High Performance accounting for the biggest reduction, QC remains confident of being able to service and provide support to the game’s players, participants, sponsors, stakeholders and fans. 

Key changes in QC’s organisational restructure include Queensland Bulls and Fire Coaches, Wade Seccombe and Ashley Noffke, moving into the roles of Head of Male Performance and Head of Female Performance respectively, with both having oversight of all activities of state teams and the Queensland Cricket pathway.  

QC remains committed to supporting clubs, coaches and volunteers across Queensland, with two thirds of QC’s restructured Community Cricket department to be based in regional Queensland. Community Cricket will be serviced by three Area Managers, 12 Cricket Managers, three Participation Officers, seven Coaching and Talent Specialists, plus administration, school, diversity and data specialists.  

Activity for the Brisbane Heat will be streamlined, with QC General Manager of Performance, Pathways, Coaching and Community Cricket, Bennett King overseeing the club’s W/BBL programs in consultation with men’s and women’s coaches Darren Lehmann and Ashley Noffke.  

QC’s vision to engage fans and bring families together through the WBBL and BBL has not diminished, with the club’s leading Commercial and Marketing team continuing to be resourced in the areas of digital media, membership, marketing and sponsorship.  

The QC Board confirms that funding for QC’s Affiliates - consisting of Premier Cricket Clubs and Associations - remains unchanged, and, a Strategic Growth Fund for Affiliates will be established to support projects that deliver outcomes aligned to QC's goals of growing participation and providing support for coaches and volunteers.

“Like all sporting codes and organisations, Queensland Cricket has felt the significant impacts of COVID-19. While we continue to have constructive negotiations with Cricket Australia around cuts to state association funding, we realise we need to act now in the interest of the financial health of cricket in Queensland. 

“This has been an extremely challenging time and our thoughts are foremost with our employees who have no doubt been living with a high level of uncertainty and anxiety as this process has been taking place.  

“A lot of difficult decisions have been made and we continue to offer support for those employees whose roles have been made redundant.  

“While QC’s workforce has been reduced, we still have a solid base to support and grow the game. We will find innovative ways to continue to support our clubs, associations and volunteers from the community to the elite level to deliver cricket programs throughout Queensland.  

"Our presence in community cricket and regional Queensland remains strong, and in some cases, we have offered employees the opportunity to take on cross-role responsibilities in talent identification, coaching and club support.  

“Cricket is still focused on promoting our sport to women and girls and we remain well-resourced in the areas of female talent specialists and high performance. As part of our new structure, QC will contract a Head Selector for Female Cricket for the first time.  

“As it currently stands, uncertainty remains as to whether we can have crowds at cricket matches this summer. However, our Commercial and Marketing team remain focused on providing exposure for our sponsors and leading the way in delivering entertainment and great experiences for cricket's growing fan base. Of course, we are extremely thankful to our commercial partners and fans for their continued support.  

“While parts of our operating model will change, our aim is for this to be a seamless transition for participants, volunteers, partners, clubs and fans.  

"We know cricket is being faced with challenges, however our resolve to unite and inspire Queensland communities through cricket has not wavered.”
