Brisbane businessman David Conry AM, a founder of Youngcare and Queensland’s Australian of the Year in 2007, will become the inaugural Chair of the QC Foundation which aims to fundraise and invest into cricket initiatives that create positive differences in Queensland communities.

The Foundation will be managed by a committee headed by Conry, as well as former banker David Goffage, and featuring Queensland Cricket Chairman Chris Simpson, CEO Terry Svenson and COO Liam Hibbert.

The Foundation will support four key philanthropic pillars.

1. Indigenous health and well-being

2. Female and all-inclusive programs and initiatives

3. Infrastructure and facilities

4. Supporting experiences for disadvantaged youth

The Foundation will raise funds through tax-deductible donations, corporate partnerships, and major events, with the first such occasion being the Summer of Cricket Luncheon on Friday 3 December at the Queensland Cricketers’ Club ahead of the opening Ashes Test at the Gabba on Wednesday 8 December.

Tickets for the Luncheon are available through - qldcricket.com.au/lunch

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson welcomed the appointments while stating the launch of the Foundation marked an important phase in QC’s vision to be Queensland’s Favourite Sport.

“We are very grateful to David Conry and David Goffage for agreeing to join with us as part of our inaugural Foundation committee and provide us with their insights and expertise to help us build towards our stated aims of supporting our four key pillars,’’ he said.

“The Queensland Cricket Foundation can, and will do, a great deal of good both now and in the future for our cricket community and we believe that it will be strongly supported. "

"We want to run programs that all Queenslanders - no matter their age, gender, ability or background can participate in; build infrastructure that makes our participants feel safe and welcome; create memorable experiences for participants that might not otherwise have the opportunity; and ensure cricket is a game that all Queenslanders have the opportunity to play and enjoy."

“We have a great opportunity in front of us to create a legacy for Queenslanders and our communities, and we are looking forward to seeing the impact we know the Foundation can have.”

"We will continue to speak to prominent Queenslanders about joining the Foundation committee and bringing their individual skills and passions to the group."

Conry welcomed the opportunity to join with Queensland Cricket.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to work alongside Queensland Cricket and I thank them for providing me with the chance to be involved and creating a bright future for Queenslanders and our communities.

"Sport has the ability to create positive societal change, so it is with a great passion for cricket and giving back, that I am excited to take on this challenge as Chair of the Queensland Cricket Foundation.”

Svenson also announced that Lucy Hirst had been appointed as Foundation Manager to oversee the implementation of its fundraising and operations.

"Lucy brings a wealth of experience to the role having been prominent in this area in her previous role at the Royal Brisbane And Women's Hospital Foundation and we are delighted to have her join us,'' he said.

The Queensland Cricket Foundation will be operated through the Australian Sports Foundation, with more information and donations available to be made at qldcricket.com.au/foundation
