QC staff, players and stakeholders are being encouraged to donate food and essential items as part of the statewide Food Drive, aimed at assisting Foodbank in its mission to fight hunger in Australia.
Food Drive storage boxes will be housed at QC’s Albion headquarters in Brisbane, as well as regional offices in Mackay, Townsville and Cairns from Friday 8 March – 15 March.
Queensland Cricket Community Cricket staff will also be collecting items at Premier Cricket clubs this Saturday 9 March at respective home grounds.
<p.>The Food Drive continues Queensland Cricket’s partnership with Foodbank that has seen $7,200 raised this summer for sixes hit by the Queensland Bulls and Queensland Fire. QC has donated $100 for every six hit by the Bulls and Fire during the JLT Cup and Women’s National Cricket League, with Chris Lynn leading the charge with 27 maximums during October’s one-day tournament.</p.>
Chief Executive Officer Max Walters said Queensland Cricket was proud to have Foodbank as an Official Charity Partner due to a shared vision of assisting Queensland communities.
“Foodbank are a charity doing wonderful things for Queenslanders in need, and we are proud to play a small role in fighting hunger across the country.
“This summer has been an extremely challenging one for many communities in regional parts of our state who have been dealing with floods, drought and bushfires. We hope that our contribution through next week’s food drive will assist families and individuals who have been doing it tough.
“We view this summer as the beginning of what we hope will be a long-lasting and successful partnership between QC and Foodbank,” Mr. Walters said.
