Experienced Sunshine Coast pace bowler Ash Renouf, Ipswich/Logan spinner Jack Wood and Redlands wicket-keeper Leigh Drennan are set to make their Queensland Academy of Sport 2nd XI debuts next week in the Toyota 2nd XI competition match against South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.
Renouf, a long-time Queensland Indigenous cricket representative, has been rewarded for his consistent wicket-taking efforts so far this season for the Scorchers in the Queensland Premier Cricket competition.
A police officer whose cousin is former Broncos great Steve Renouf, has led the Scorchers attack with 18 wickets at 17.94 this season.
Wood is a former Queensland Youth representative who will play alongside his younger brother Harry in the QAS team.
Drennan, who captains Redlands Tigers, is originally from Brisbane but has previously played Premier Cricket in Adelaide with West Torrens and captained the Northern Territory while playing in Darwin.
Drennan takes the gloves in place of Bulls squad member Lachlan Pfeffer who is awaiting the birth of his first child this week.
The QAS has won its past two matches outright.
Queensland Chairman of Selectors Justin Sternes said consistent performances in Premier Cricket were providing plenty of opportunities for players at 2nd XI level.
“We’ve been able to select some players for their first games, and bring them into a winning side, which is a pleasing sign,’ he said.
“There have been other players who haven’t been able to take up selection invitations so far due to work and other commitments, but we are certainly keeping a close eye on performances in Premier Cricket and will continue to provide opportunities to test themselves at 2nd XI level as they arise.”
