Australian limited overs pace bowler Billy Stanlake is set to play his first JLT Sheffield Shield match since 2015 following his selection for the Queensland Bulls side to take on NSW at the Gabba from Sunday.

Stanlake comes into the Bulls squad for leg-spinner Mitch Swepson in the only change to the squad that lost to Victoria earlier this week in Melbourne, where the home team chased down a target late on the final day.

In a crucial match for the reigning Shield champions, fourth-placed Queensland will take on second-placed NSW in their second last home game of the season at the Gabba.

The Bulls also play South Australia at the Gabba before finishing their regular season campaign in Perth against the Warriors.

Stanlake took 2-53 from 14.3 overs in the first innings this week for the Queensland Academy of Sport in their Toyota Futures League loss to the Victorian 2nd XI at Allan Border Field.

He played his only Shield matches to date for the Bulls in November and December 2015.

Queensland Chairman of Selectors Justin Sternes welcomed the opportunity for Stanlake to expand his first-class experience.

“Bill is keen to showcase his red ball skills and returning to first class cricket has been one of his goals this season,’’ he said.

The Shield game will be streamed live on cricket.com.au and through the Cricket LIVE app.

Play starts 10am (Qld time). Admission is free with entry via Gate 5 on Vulture Street.
