Batsmen Sam Truloff and Steve Paulsen ensured Wests clinched the John McKnoulty Cup with a strong win over defending title holders University of Queensland at Peter Burge Oval yesterday.
Truloff, who returned to play the Final from Hobart where he is currently playing Premier cricket as part of his bid to earn a spot with the Tasmanian Tigers, combined with the evergreen Paulsen to deliver a match-winning effort.
Truloff finished 129 not out from 136 balls as he and Paulsen (69no from 51 balls) produced an unbeaten stand of 215 to successfully chase down Uni's total of 7-259 in the 45th over.
University relied on a solid 55 from Scott Henry as well as useful scores from Mitchell Fry (44no) and Jano Coetzee.
Paulsen also took two wickets with his leg-spin while promising Wests paceman Blake Edwards collected 3-68.
