A Mitchell Marsh century guided the hosts to 7-355, with the former Test all-rounder receiving solid support from William Bosisto (60) and D'arcy Short (59).

On the same day that his brother Shaun helped dig Australia out of trouble in the Ashes in Brisbane, and fellow Test aspirant Glenn Maxell hit a double century, Marsh compiled 141 off 209 balls to remind national selectors of his credentials as an international batsman.

Jack Wildermuth (3-69) led the charge for the Bulls on day one, with Luke Feldman (2-74), Brendan Doggett (1-60) and Mitchell Swepson (1-74) the other wicket-takers.
