Gold Coast allrounders Hugo Burdon and Josh Kann, Queensland Bulls squad batsman Corey Hunter and Norths allrounder Noah McFadyen will travel to the Top End in June to take part in NT Cricket’s new Cricket 365 program that today announced the interstate players who will take part in the winter season in Darwin.
Cricket New South Wales, Queensland Cricket, South Australian Cricket Association, Cricket Tasmania, Cricket Victoria and Western Australian Cricket Association have all signed up to take advantage of Cricket 365, with each state cricket association nominating players to head north and make the most of the Top End’s dry season, first class standard venues and winter cricket ecosystem.
The interstate players will combine with the Territory’s best players to form squads for the City Cyclones, Desert Blaze, Northern Tide and Southern Storm which will each take part in the TIO Men’s Strike League One Day Series and T20 Tournament. These four teams are also set to be joined by invitational teams in the T20 Tournament during August.
Top order batsman Hunter, who plays for Wynnum-Manly, has represented the Queensland Academy of Sport in the Toyota 2nd XI competition.
Kann, a hard-hitting right hand batsman and right-arm pace bowler, was the third-highest runs-scorer in the Bulls Masters First Grade competition with 978 runs at 48.9 including 10 half centuries, as well as claiming 17 wickets for the Dolphins.
Burdon, a leg-spinning allrounder, was named as captain of the Queensland Under-19 team that was scheduled to play a series against NSW at the start of the month before Brisbane's pre-Easter COVID-19 lockdown meant the matches were cancelled.
McFadyen, who was also named in the Queensland Under-19 squad, was a member of the Norths team that contested the Premier Cricket Final against University of Queensland.
A promising AFL player in his youth, his older brother Connor was drafted by the Brisbane Lions.
The Cricket 365 program, running for ten weeks from 20 June until 27 August, consists of three men’s competitions:
- TIO Men’s Strike League One Day Series – 20 June to 25 July
- Top End Series which will see the Northern Territory men’s NT Strike team take on a Cricket Australia XI in a best of three one day match series – 1 to 8 August
- TIO Men’s Strike League T20 Tournament – 15 to 27 August
