For the second season in a row, the Queensland Fire will step up their pre-season preparations with a practice match against a Queensland Veterans cricket XI today at Peter Burge Oval.
Fire Take On Veterans
Australian allrounder Jess Jonassen will lead the Queensland team in the match that gets underway from 2pm.
Queensland will use the game as a warm-up ahead of the Women’s National Cricket League season that gets underway later this month.
Wicket-keeper Georgia Redmayne will continue her comeback from a torn Achilles tendon that she suffered playing for the WBBL Heat in November last year in the preliminary Final of the Weber Women’s Big Bash League.
The Veterans team includes ex- Australian professional tennis players Andrew and Mark Kratzmann and former Queensland one-day player Trent Ryan.
The Kratzmann brothers were both accomplished junior cricketers before embarking on their tennis careers. Both returned to cricket after tennis, with Mark representing Hong Kong at one point, and have continued to enjoy Veterans Cricket of late.
Ryan, who had a long first grade career with Sandgate-Redcliffe, is an Australian Over 50's player, who has captained the side and was a member of the Over-50s World Cup winning team in 2018.
Fire batter Mikayla Hinkley will miss the match as she recovers from a minor quad strain, while pace bowler Courtney Sippel will also sit out the game, enabling young Wests quick Lilly Bassingthwaite to play alongside her Queensland Under-19 teammate Sianna Ginger.
Sippel's absence means she will miss the chance to play against her uncles, Mark and Andrew Kratzmann.
