Burdon Set For Bulls

Gold Coast batter Hugo Burdon is set to make his List A debut for the Queensland Bulls tomorrow in the Marsh One Day Cup clash with Tasmania at the Gabba.

Burdon, 22, has been included in the Bulls squad for the day/night clash against the Tigers and would make his Queensland debut if named in the starting XI.

The Queensland rookie-contracted player will join Australia’s latest ODI selection Xavier Bartlett who has been included in the Bulls squad following his eye-catching debut against the West Indies.

Bartlett, another Gold Coast product, was named Player of the Series yesterday after taking his second four-wicket haul in as many matches after his initial outing at the MCG last week where he returned the second-best figures of all-time for an Australian player on debut.

Bartlett and Ben McDermott returned today to Brisbane after yesterday’s ODI win in Canberra against the West Indies.

Burdon, a right-hand bat and right-arm leg-spin bowler, scored an unbeaten century for the Queensland 2nd XI last month in Perth to help secure victory over WA in the Toyota 2nd XI competition.

His 108 not out in the second innings was his first century in the national competition.

A past student of The Southport School, he represented Queensland at Under-17 and Under-19 level and made his first grade debut in Premier Cricket for the Dolphins as a 17-year-old.

Burdon was a Local Replacement Player for the Brisbane Heat during their KFC BBL championship season this summer without playing a game.

He was the equal leading runs-scorer with 379 runs in the KFC T20 Max earlier this season following a winter stint playing club cricket in the United Kingdom that also saw him play two County 2nd XI matches.

The Bulls currently sit in fifth spot, one point behind Tasmania.

Queensland batters Jack Clayton (102) and McDermott (146no) are coming off strong performances with the bat in the Marsh Sheffield Shield game won by Tasmania earlier in the week at the Gabba.

McDermott, in his first season back with Queensland after a decade with the Tigers, is the Bulls leading runs-scorer in the Marsh Cup, with 306 at 76.50.

The match will be broadcast live on Kayo and FOX Cricket. Admission is free and entry is via Gate 5 on Vulture Street.
