Test batter Marnus Labuschagne will add the prestige of leading Queensland in a first-class match for the first time tomorrow, hard on the heels of his senior captaincy debut yesterday in the Marsh One Day Cup.
Marnus To Captain Shield Team
The Australian player has been named to captain the Bulls in the Marsh Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval starting tomorrow.
Labuschagne will lead a new-look Bulls line-up that features the inclusion of Australian limited overs paceman Xavier Bartlett and Australian Under-19 World Cup championship quick Callum Vidler.
It will be the initial first-class game of the season for Bartlett, who made eye-catching debuts for Australia at ODI and T20I level in the past few weeks after a breakout season for the BBL championship Brisbane Heat.
Vidler, 18, was the leading wicket-taker for Australia in their undefeated ICC World Under-19 Cup campaign, culminating in their win over India in the Final in South Africa earlier this week.
If chosen in the starting side, the Valley paceman would make his first class and Sheffield Shield debut for Queensland.
Queensland has selected a 13-man squad to prepare for the match against South Australia, with wicket-keeper Jimmy Peirson named to take his spot in the team after missing yesterday's Marsh One Day Cup loss to the Redbacks as he managed a knee injury.
In Peirson’s absence, Valley gloveman Dylan McLachlan completed a fine List A debut, hitting 44 in a stand of 100 with Labuschagne and producing a tidy display behind the stumps as South Australia chased down Queensland’s total of 218.
Queensland currently sit in sixth spot on the Shield ladder, a win behind South Australia.
The Bulls have two matches remaining in the regular season after this game, travelling to Perth to take on Western Australia (Mar 1-4) before hosting NSW (Mar 11-14) at Allan Border Field.
Tomorrow’s game will be streamed live on cricket.com.au, with play underway from 10am Qld time.

Meanwhile victorious Australian Under-19 World Cup captain Hugh Weibgen will make his senior cricket debut following selection in the Queensland 2nd XI that takes on Victoria in Melbourne next week in the Toyota 2nd XI competition.
Weibgen, who led Australia in their undefeated ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign this week, will be joined by Australian squad mate Lachy Aitken in the Queensland squad that also features Ipswich paceman Jem Ryan in his first selection at this level.
Ryan, originally from Toowoomba, has taken 48 wickets at 13.83 in 15 matches this season for the competition-leading Hornets.
