A dominant batting effort from the Queensland Fire today has sent them soaring into next weekend's Women's National Cricket League Final against defending champions Tasmania at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.
Fire Lock In Final Spot
After the deflating early loss of captain Georgia Redmayne to a first ball run-out, Georgia Voll set sail for her second WNCL century of the season as she and experienced English international Lauren Winfield-Hill (57) laid the foundation for an imposing total of 5-304 despite losing five overs to a rain delay.
Complemented by an amazing display from Laura Harris, who crashed seven fours and four sixes in a 28-ball blitz that netted her 64 runs, the Fire piled on the runs to ensure WA would need a similar batting display if they were to deny Queensland the victory.
Scoreboard pressure and some nifty skills from Redmayne, who claimed two stumpings in an over from Grace Parsons, saw WA dismissed for 9-136 with Lilly Mills unable to bat due to a hamstring injury.
The Fire meet WA again on Saturday, with the match coinciding with the Queensland Women's Player reunion at Allan Border Field.
The WNCL Final will be held on Saturday 24 February.
