Fire Set For WNCL Final

Queensland has named a squad of 14 for this Saturday’s Women’s National Cricket League Final against Tasmania in Hobart.

The Fire are chasing their second title, having won the Ruth Preddy Cup for the first time in 2021 when they overcame Victoria in Melbourne.

Tasmania has won the past two titles and is seeking to become the only State other than New South Wales to win three WNCL titles in a row.

The Fire will have five players from their championship team on deck on Saturday, with captain Georgia Redmayne, the player of the match in the 2020-21 decider, again leading the team.

Included in the Queensland squad is English international Lauren Winfield-Hill, who has played five Tests, 55 ODIs and 44 T20 Internationals for her country.

Charli Knott, Georgia Voll, Courtney Sippel, Sianna Ginger, and Grace Parsons will take part in next month’s ‘Green v Gold’ three-day, red ball match in Adelaide that will complement future national selection plans.

Pace bowlers Bonnie Berry and Lucy Hamilton were recently named in the Australian under-19 squad to tour Sri Lanka while batter Mikayla Hinkley represented the Australian Indigenous team that toured Vanuatu last year.

Queensland will be without Australian allrounders Jess Jonassen and Grace Harris and the big-hitting Laura Harris for the Final with the trio playing in the WPL in India from this week.

However, the trio ensured the Fire qualified for the Final with match-winning efforts in the last regular season matches when Queensland defeated WA at Allan Border Field to lock in their top-two spot.
