Central Queensland | Volunteer of the Year

Congratulations to Tracey Slean from Gladstone Brothers Junior Cricket Club!

Tracey Slean has been recognized as the deserving recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award in Central Queensland for her outstanding contributions to the Gladstone Brothers Junior Cricket Club and Gladstone Cricket Incorporated (GCI).

For the past two years, Tracey has served as the registrar for the Gladstone Brothers Junior Cricket Club, where her impact has been nothing short of transformative. Notably, Tracey's proactive approach has seen her secure sponsorships from numerous local businesses, resulting in significant upgrades for the club, including the acquisition of new iPads for scoring, enhanced nets, and the installation of two synthetic wickets at the grounds. Her successful application for the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund further underscores her commitment to improving facilities for cricket enthusiasts in the region.

Tracey's efforts didn't stop at procurement; she was the driving force behind the installation of the synthetic wickets, collaborating with various individuals, clubs, and organizations to ensure the project's success. Navigating approvals and negotiations with representatives from soccer and AFL, as Clinton Park, the club's base, is a multi-sport venue, showcased Tracey's exceptional leadership and organizational skills.

Moreover, Tracey has actively engaged with the community, organizing and coaching "come and try cricket" afternoons at local schools to promote the sport. Her initiatives also include advertising the local competition and facilitating the acquisition of new playing shirts for the club, enhancing its identity and visibility within the community.

In addition to her role with the junior club, Tracey has taken on the responsibilities of the GCI secretary, stepping up to address organizational challenges left behind by the previous committee. Despite inheriting minimal resources, Tracey's proactive approach ensured the establishment of essential infrastructure, including email addresses, a PO Box, and bank accounts, setting the groundwork for the committee's success.

Despite her demanding schedule, balancing her volunteer commitments with work and family responsibilities, Tracey's unwavering dedication and selflessness shine through. Her outstanding contributions to cricket administration and community engagement make her a true asset to Gladstone cricket and a deserving recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award. Tracey Slean's impact transcends the boundaries of sport, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication, inclusivity, and positive change in Central Queensland.
