The Queensland Fire will look to go one better this week when they resume their Women’s National Cricket League season against Western Australia at Allan Border Field.
Fire Aim To Bounce Back
The Fire were competitive without claiming a win in their opening two games of the WNCL season last week against NSW.
Queensland almost snatched a thrilling win over the Breakers on Sunday, as the visitors slumped from 2-174 to 8-216.
NSW lost 7-42, with rising leg-spinner Grace Parsons' spell of 4-38 from 7.3 overs getting the home team in sight of an unlikely win after Queensland had earlier underperformed with the bat to be dismissed for 215 from 46.3 overs.
Parsons and fellow young gun Sianna Ginger, who took 4-49 in the first game against NSW, were joined in the individual performance ledger by captain Jess Jonassen.
Jonassen produced scores of 47 and 89 from 83 balls in her two innings as well as claiming 1-29 from 10 overs on Sunday.
English international Lauren Winfield-Hill also produced a first-up half century, top-scoring in game one with 63 as Queensland scored 9-266.
The Queensland selectors have named the same 13 player squad to prepare for tomorrow’s clash with Western Australia and the return match on Saturday.
Allrounders Lucy Hamilton and Lily Bassingthwaighte have been involved in in the Under-19 Tri Series in Brisbane including Sri Lanka and the New Zealand Development squad which has been underway for the past fortnight.
Hamilton has captained Australia in the matches she has been involved in while Bassingthwaighte has opened the batting and bowling in her appearances in the ODI and T20 series.
Both matches get underway at 9.30am and can be seen live on Kayo and cricket.com.au.
