A match-defining effort from Hugh Burdon (pictured) has swept the Queensland 2nd XI to a timely win over NSW at Peter Burge Oval today in the Toyota National 2nd XI competition.
Burdon Leads Way For Qld
Burdon, named as captain of the Queensland side, hit a century and a half century his two bats in the four-day clash hosted by Redlands Cricket Club that capped off an impressive week for Queensland's next wave of playing prospects.
The Queensland Bulls squad member has hit four centuries so far this season in 2nd XI and KFC Queensland Premier Cricket games.
Queensland claimed the eight-wicket win off the back of strong batting from Burdon (100 and 51) and Lachlan Hearne (72) as well as vital first innings half centuries from the lower order in the form of Liam Guthrie (53) and Tom Straker (51no).
NSW was dismissed for 262 in the first innings, with Straker (3-24) and Callum Vidler (2-45) leading the way with the ball. Queensland's first innings batting effort of 9-365 (dec) was backed by another composed effort with the ball as NSW was bowled out for 199, setting Queensland less than 100 to win outright.
Toombul quick Tom Balkin took 3-26 while Redlands spinner Jack Sinfield enjoyed the opportunity to bowl on his home track to claim 2-64 from 21 overs to help set up the win, with Queensland finishing at 2-97.
