Queensland Cricket is proud to present the second annual High-Performance Coaching Symposium, a two-day professional development event designed for experienced and emerging coaches working in Junior Representative, Premier Grade and High-performance environments.
2025 High Performance Coaching Symposium
This year’s symposium brings together a wide range of voices from across the sporting landscape, offering a balance of theory, insights and applied learning.
Keynote Speakers:
- Cliff Mallett – One of Australia’s leading performance coaching experts, exploring how high-level coaches shape sustained success.
- Matt Wilkie – A deep dive into the common characteristics of elite teams and what distinguishes long-term performance cultures.
- John Buchanan – Leadership lessons from one of cricket’s most successful international coaches.
- Sam Iles – Reflections and learnings from a career in AFL coaching, with relevance to managing individuals and teams under pressure.
- Alex Gorman – Sports psychology insights, focusing on the mindset and behavioural traits of elite athletes and coaches.
The event will be hosted and facilitated by Darren Holder, Managing Director of ‘Coaching Better’ and a leading voice in coach education.

Applied Learning and Practical Cricket Sessions:
The symposium also features Queensland Cricket’s own high-performance coaching staff, providing practical insight into skill development, performance management, and athlete pathways. Our speakers include:
- Johan Botha – Head Coach, Queensland Bulls
- Mark Sorrell – Head Coach, Queensland Fire
- Jarred Loughman – Head of Queensland Academy Program
- Greg Moller – Elite Player Development Manager
These sessions will include interactive workshops, panel discussions, and on-field demonstrations designed to support coaches in transferring knowledge into their own environments.
