Amazing Grace!

Another night, another record-breaking effort in the KFC T20 Max competition as Valley allrounder Grace Abdy takes the best ever bowling figures in the competition.

Abdy, who gew up on a property outside of Cloncurry in north-west Queensland, was the star turn for Valley last night as they swept aside Ipswich under lights at Alan Pettigrew Oval at Shaw Road.

While her Valley clubmate Hugh Weibgen was notching up his first T20 century for the club on the adjacent Ian Healy Oval, Abdy was becoming the latest player in the T20 Max to break through for a major milestone.

Her incredible spell of 6-6 from three overs included a triple wicket maiden and hat-trick as her off-spinners wrought havoc with the Ipswich run chase after Valley, inspired by Mikayla Hinkley (84no) and Lucy Bourke (65) had posted an imposting 3-183.

Abdy was a teammate of Hinkley's in the Queensland Indigenous women's team that won the National title in 2023, with the Townsville junior recently chosen alongside her Valley teammate Christina Coulson for the Australian Indigenous team's tour of Papau New Guinea.

The 20-year-old has also been a Queensland U-19 and Queensland Country Brolgas representative and her effort last night will put her firmly in the selection frame for the Heat squad to compete in the T20 Spring Challenge that will be held in October leading into the Weber Women's Big Bash League.

Abdy's brilliance was one of several highlights from a busy night in the T20 Max.

Weibgen's hundred for Valley lifted them to another score over 200, with his 120 not out coming from 57 balls, featuring 14 fours and four sixes at a strikerate of 210.52. His ton continues a prolific 2025 so far for the former Australian Under-19 captain. He enjoyed a rich English summer for Sunbury CC, hitting 1307 runs at 72.61, including five centuries.

He was admirably supported by Melbourne Stars recruit Sam Harper who crunched 71 from 35 balls to set Valley on the track to a score of 3-231. Young left-arm paceman Charlie Thomas was also eye-catching for Valley, claiming 3-30 as Sandgate-Redcliffe were held to 7-139.

South Brisbane's Brendon Faber reinforced his status as a dangerous power hitter with a blazing 70 from 28 balls to help his side chase down Wynnum-Manly's total of 8-129 in the other men's match, after experienced BBL hands Gurinder Sandhu and Arjun Nair each claimed 3-25 for Souths.

Faber scored at 250.00 as he crashed six sixes and six fours as the Magpies reached 5-136 in their chase. Playing against his old club, Wynnum-Manly seamer Chathura Kaluthanthri took 3-8 to temporarily slow the Souths batting momentum.

In the other women's games last night, Wynnum-Manly faired better than their male counterparts, with another Queensland and Australian Indigenous spinner starring with the ball. Experienced left-arm spinner Clodagh Ryall claimed 4-17 from 3.3 overs as she helped dismiss Sandgate-Redcliffe for 112.

Earlier, young batter Grace Collins (37) and Hobart Hurricanes allrounder Hayley Silver-Holmes (42 off 29 balls) lifted Wynnum-Manly to 5-147. Reigning Kath Smith Medallist Darcy Johnson took 2-20 from four overs for the Gators.

University of Queensland overcame Gold Coast in the final match, with Taylor Stumer (37) and Anlo van Deventer (35) lifting the Students to 5-115 after the Dolphins had been dismissed for 111.

UQ spinner Khushi Mistry claimed 2-10 from her four overs.

Tonight features Western Suburbs taking on Toombul at Ken Mackay Oval at Nundah in the 7plus Sport broadcast game, while Ipswich host Northern Suburbs at Baxter Oval at Ipswich.

In the women's competition, Wests take on Ipswich at Alan Pettigrew Oval and in the other game at the Shaw Road complex, Sunshine Coast clash with Valley at Geoff Dymock Oval.
