Queensland and Australian stars Marnus Labuschagne, Xavier Bartlett, Sianna Ginger and Lucy Hamilton have joined with Members of the Queensland Parliament to mark the lead-in to the coming season.
Parliamentary Friends Unite For Cricket
Today's gathering at Parliament House featured the Queensland Parliamentary Friends of Cricket, which was established in 2015 to help lift the profile of cricket in Queensland among elected State representatives to encourage cricket participation in local electorates, especially among young girls and women, promote the value to communities of diversity and inclusion through playing cricket and support cricket to deliver improved, better local facilities for participants, fans and volunteers.
The players and QC CEO Terry Svenson were officially welcomed by the founding co-chairs of the QPFOC, Hon Tony Perrett (MP, Gympie) and Hon Mark Ryan (MP, Morayfield).
Speaking at the event, the Hon Tony Perrett, the Member for Gympie, said:
“It’s a pleasure to co-chair Parliamentary Friends of Cricket 2025, along with my parliamentary colleague Hon Mark Ryan MP. Cricket has a long and proud history in Queensland with Queensland Cricket turning 149 this year. The 2025-26 summer of cricket promises to be an incredible one for cricket fans and players and has already got underway with International Men’s Cricket being played earlier this month in Cairns and Mackay, and the Ashes Day/Night Test at the Gabba to come. We wish those representing the Fire, Bulls and Heat all the best this upcoming season.”
