Great Northern Signs On | Bulls Eye off One Dayer

The Queensland Bulls will head into the 2025-26 season with a familiar partner taking on a new-look for the Sheffield Shield and Dean Jones Cup one-day competition.

Current Queensland Cricket beer partner Carlton United Breweries will extend their sponsorship for a further two years, with the Bulls carrying the ‘Great Northern’ brand on their two playing strips this season.

Great Northern will feature on the back of the Bulls One Day and sleeve of the Sheffield Shield playing kit.

Fans will be able to enjoy a Great Northern while watching games at Allan Border Field and at selected QC events as part of the partnership, while the brand will be front and centre in the Champions Corner premium function room at all WBBL Brisbane Heat games at Albion.

Ian Giles, State Manager Qld for CUB parent company Asahi, welcomed the new partnership.

“Not much beats watching the Bulls on a warm summer day with a Great Northern in hand,’’ he said.

“So, we’re delighted Queensland’s favourite beer is now partnering with the state’s leading cricket team.

“It’s going to be a Great summer, and we look forward to raising a few Great Northerns with the team after each win this season.”

Queensland Cricket General Manager – Commercial and Marketing Pete Lock congratulated CUB for their ongoing support of the Bulls.

“We are privileged and proud to have an iconic and much-loved brand in Great Northern feature on the Queensland Bulls kit this summer and greatly value the connection we have with CUB across all levels of cricket throughout the State,’’ he said.

“We are heading into what is going to be one of the biggest summers of cricket on record with full stadiums likely for the Ashes and Big Bash, so there will be plenty of opportunities for our fans to enjoy a Northern in front of the cricket.”

The Queensland Bulls men’s team and Queensland Fire women’s team will sport new look playing kit this summer, with the New Balance range of whites and coloured clothing unveiled ahead of the season.

Alongside Great Northern, the Bulls’ front of shirt will carry the Queensland Cricket Institute of Business branding, with the partnership between QC and TAFE Queensland entering its second year, with Greg Chappell Cricket Centre branding on the sleeve.

For the Queensland Fire, the second year of the partnership with Ward will feature their logo on the principal position on the front of the playing shirt.

The Queensland Cricket Institute of Business branding will appear on the back of the Fire shirt, and the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre branding will again be carried on the sleeve.

The Fire open their season next week on 24 and 26 September when they travel to Perth to take on Western Australia at the WACA in a pair of day/night games.

The Bulls could potentially field three debutants for their opening match against Victoria on Wednesday at Allan Border Field, with Valley duo Hugh Weibgen and Benji Floros and ex-NSW allrounder Hayden Kerr included in a 13-man squad.

If chosen in the starting XI, Weibgen would play his first senior match for Queensland while Floros and Kerr would make their one-day debuts for the Bulls.

Pace bowler Xavier Bartlett will be with the Australia ‘A’ squad in India while fellow quick Mark Steketee was unavailable as he completes his return from a minor hamstring injury.

As agreed to by Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia, Usman Khawaja is focusing his pre-season preparation around the beginning of the first-class cricket season next month. The State selection panel took that into account when it selected the one-day squad for the first two matches.

The Bulls finished fourth in the one-day competition last season, one point behind third-placed NSW. South Australia won the trophy by defeating Victoria.

Admission is free on Wednesday. The match will be streamed live on cricket.com.auand the Cricket Australia Live App.

Sunday's match against WA is a day/night match with a 2pm start.
