The Queensland Fire will draw from all points of the compass as they assemble in Perth next week for their opening games of the 2025-26 Women’s National Cricket League.
Fire Set For Season Opener
As well as the Brisbane-based contingent that completed their pre-season last week, captain Jess Jonassen, wicket-keeper Georgia Redmayne and batter Laura Harris will travel from the West Indies, former English international Lauren Winfield-Hill will journey from the United Kingdom and allrounder Charli Knott will return from international duties in India.
Jonassen, Redmayne and Harris all played in the Caribbean Women’s Premier League that finished this week, while Knott has is currently a member of the Australian ODI squad that is preparing for next month’s ICC Cricket World Cup in India with a pre-tournament series against India.
Former South Australian batter Annie O’Neil has been included in the Queensland Fire for the first time, coming off the back of an impressive KFC T20 Max campaign for Western Suburbs earlier this month where she hit 231 runs at an average of 77.
O’Neil, 26, has recently relocated to Brisbane and will make her WNCL debut for Queensland if selected in the starting side. She previously played 34 WNCL matches for the Scorpions.
Valley pace bowler Bonnie Berry would also make her WNCL debut for Queensland if chosen in the starting line-up.
The 19-year-old Central Queensland product missed last season with a back injury but has been a strong pre-season contributor to date for the Fire.
Queensland, runners-up last season to NSW, will play a pair of day/night clashes at the redeveloped WACA on Wednesday and Friday.
