Board Visits Bundaberg

Fresh from the Queensland Bulls making a welcome appearance in Maryborough, Queensland Cricket last week extended their engagement with the Wide Bay-Burnett region with a Country Board meeting in Bundaberg.

On Thursday, 18 September, the Queensland Cricket Board visited Bundaberg for a high-impact regional visit aimed at deepening relationships, inspecting facilities, and exploring future opportunities for the region.

The delegation included Chair Kirsten Pike and CEO Terry Svenson, as well as directors and senior staff.

The visit was aimed at strengthening relationships with key community stakeholders and supporting them in their aspiration to grow the game in the region.

The tour kicked off with a site visit of Salter Oval, with representatives from Queensland Country Cricket joining the group amid some exciting cricket being played at the State Primary School Boys carnival.

The Board also met Across the Waves Cricket President Dale Inman to view recent upgrades to the ACIF nets and discuss grassroots development.

The Board then visited Kendall Flats to discuss opportunities for the venue. BCA President Rhys Grills joined the conversation, highlighting the associations aspirations for the facilities.

A quick visit to the Vince Habermann Training Facilities offered a chance for photos and recognition of local cricket legends. Attendees included Brothers CC President Simon Kelly, Scott Lamond, and David Batt MP.

The evening culminated in a stakeholder function at Brothers Sports Club, bringing together local government officials, club presidents, and community leaders.

Notable attendees included Federal Member David Batt MP, Mayor Helen Blackburn, and Councillor Gary Kirk.

The event fostered strong dialogue around cricket’s future in the Wide Bay region and Queensland Cricket’s commitment to the game in regional Queensland.
