Captain Hugo Burdon has led from the front as Queensland opened their Toyota Second XI competition campaign with a resounding win over South Australia at Peter Burge Oval.
Burdon Leads Way For Second XI
Burdon's excellent knock of 128 was the centrepiece of Queensland's first innings of 433, which put the home side in the box seat after the bowling attack had bundled out SA for 99 in their first innings.
Burdon, Scott Palombo (83) and Tom Campbell (56) ensured that Queensland would only bat once in the game, with the bowling attack again doing the job in the SA second innnings to dismiss them for 314 and claim the outright win by 20 runs.
Queensland spinner Jack Sinfield took eight wickets for the match, picking up 4-22 from 23 overs in the first innings and 4-48 from 29.4 overs in the second.
Debutant paceman Sam Skelly was also impressive, with the Canberra quick claiming 3-30 in the first innings and 3-96 in the second to make his maiden Queensland appearance a memorable one after previously playing for the ACT in the competition.
Wests paceman Sam Geyer also claimed 2-9 from 10 overs in the first innings.
Regular SA opener Henry Hunt provided a lone hand in the second innings, finishing with 148 to record the highest individual score of the game.
