2025 StreetSmarts Schools T20 Challenge Delivered
The StreetSmarts Secondary Schools T20 Challenge has again been a successful vehicle for cricket and road safety in 2025.
The competition featured a mix of regional and metropolitan schools, with 15 schools represented across the Open Boys and Girls divisions. The Finals of the competition saw talented students from across the State gather at Marchant Park in Brisbane to battle it out.
The StreetSmarts Secondary Schools T20 Challenge is backed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ public education platform, StreetSmarts, which encourages safer road use, aiming to change attitudes and behaviours to improve road safety.
As well as helping drive safer communities, StreetSmarts introduces safe driving messages to teenagers before they get on the road and plays a vital role in building responsible habits and reducing early risks.
Through supporting the Secondary Schools T20 Challenge, StreetSmarts aims to keep young people and others safe on the road.

Daine Macdonald – Padua First XI Coach
"We got our First XI Squad together for two weeks of training prior to the competition as a way to get our group some time in the nets and field before the competition after the school season ended in March."
"We went 4/4 in our round robin games. On the Friday, we had a pair of good wins against Nanango SHS and Kingaroy SHS, and on the Saturday had a solid win v Newman Catholic College, followed by a close, hard fought last over victory v Matthew Flinders Anglican College."
"We finished 2nd after the 4 games leading to a Semi Final v Rockhampton Grammar which we won convincingly, giving us confidence going into the Final v St Augustine's College. "
Semi Final: "The Mercer brothers took control of the game and dominated in our Semi Final. Jack opened the batting and scored 81 off 38 balls. Younger brother Andy opened the bowling with his off spin and took his first 5 wicket haul, finishing with 6/10 off 4 overs".
Final: "It was a really balanced bowling effort in the final, limiting St Augustine’s to all out 83. Ryan out took 3/18 off 4 overs. "
"Our top 4 controlled the run chase and got the job done with 7 overs to spare. Ben de Waard finished off a really strong weekend with 25 not out, getting the job done with skipper Isaac Nixon, capping a good weekend with bat and ball. "
"Padua College thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the 2025 StreetSmarts Secondary Schools Competition. It was great to see schools from all over Queensland coming together to play against each other, in good spirit and competition, which made it fun for all involved.
"Our Year 12s appreciated the opportunity to play cricket together one last time, and our younger players relished the chance to continue to improve their game while playing with some of our school leaders. Having some success along the way was an additional bonus which was also very cool to see."
Richard Pershouse – The Cathedral College, Rockhampton
"Standouts in final was Ella Stewart who scored 41 to help set a total. But all the girls stood up and never gave up with Matthew Flinders were 3/88 chasing 108. They never thought they were done and bowled Flinders for 99. "
