Queensland have included batters Angus Lovell and Lachlan Hearne for their first Sheffield Shield games of the season ahead of this week’s clash with defending title-holders South Australia at the Adelaide Oval.
Bulls Ready For Shield Final Rematch
Pace bowler Tom Straker and off-spinner Jack Sinfield have also been named in the 13-man squad, with Matt Renshaw and Xavier Bartlett on Australia limited overs duties, pace bowler Gurinder Sandhu (hamstring tightness) and Hugo Burdon omitted.
Hearne and Straker missed the opening round Shield draw against Tasmania at Allan Border Field earlier this month while on duty with Australia ‘A’ in India.
Sinfield, who has played three first class games for Queensland, comes into the squad of the back of a stand-out effort yesterday for Redlands in their Kookaburra One Day Cup semi-final loss to Ipswich.
He top-scored with 98, dragging the Tigers from 7-68 to 8-181 before they finished with 219. He also took eight wickets for the match last month in Queensland’s win over SA in the opening Toyota Second XI match.
If chosen in the starting XI, Straker, Hearne, Sinfield and Lovell would all play their first Shield games of the summer for the Bulls.
The match is a repeat of last season’s Sheffield Shield Final when South Australia held off Queensland to win their first title in 29 years.Allrounder Jack Wildermuth and batter Jack Clayton scored centuries in the second innings of the Final to give the Bulls a hope of an unexpected outright win.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Cricket as well as being streamed on Kayo, cricket.com.au and the CA Live App.
