All Abilities Cricket Program Kicks Off with a Fantastic First Session

The inaugural session of the All Abilities Cricket Program was a resounding success, bringing together participants of all ages and abilities for an afternoon of fun, inclusion, and cricket at Peter Burge Oval.

The program welcomed players ranging from 5 years old to over 30, each united by a shared love of the game. The atmosphere was vibrant and supportive, creating a space where everyone could express themselves and enjoy cricket in a truly inclusive environment.

A highlight of the day was the involvement of Nathan Collins from the Applied Health and Fitness Clinic, whose energy and expertise added immense value to the session. Nathan also introduced Varun, an inspiring participant with a remarkable story. Sixteen years ago, Varun was involved in a serious car accident — just one day before receiving his transfer approval to Redlands Tigers CC. While that accident kept him from playing at the club back then, Friday’s session marked a special moment as Varun finally stepped onto the oval to enjoy the game he loves.

The event was made possible thanks to the incredible support of Taverners, whose sponsorship is helping to grow opportunities for athletes of all abilities.

Looking ahead, the excitement continues:

  • Next week, participants will receive their official program shirts.
  • Week 4 will feature a celebratory BBQ to mark the end of this first instalment — which organizers hope is just the beginning of a long-running initiative.

This program is more than cricket — it’s about community, inclusion, and creating opportunities for everyone to participate. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
