Usman Congratulated On Test Career

Queensland Cricket congratulates Usman Khawaja following his announcement earlier today that he will retire from international cricket.

Chief Executive Officer Terry Svenson said Khawaja’s efforts for Australia on the international stage were exceptional and highlighted by his displays of determination and skill whilst wearing the baggy green.

“On behalf of the Chair Kirsten Pike, the Directors, staff and players of Queensland Cricket, we thank him for his outstanding efforts as an Australian player and wish him every success in Sydney for his 88th and final Test,’’ he said.

“Usman’s international career, whether home or abroad, is one with many highlights, both individually and as part of a highly successful Australian men’s team.

“While his elegant skill with the bat is the thing most fans will remember about his international carer, it was always underpinned by a steely self-belief that enabled him to fight back from adversity on several occasions.

“He has brought that determination back to Queensland whenever he rejoined the Bulls, or the Brisbane Heat, or his Premier club Valley across any given summer.

“The Sydney Test will be a fitting way to say farewell to Usman and to commemorate his great work on and off the field, where his efforts with the Usman Khawaja Foundation continue to make a difference to the community.

“We look forward to seeing him back in Brisbane and celebrating his career in due course,” Svenson said

Khawaja, and fellow Australian players Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser, are contracted to the Brisbane Heat for BBL|15, with the Gabba hosting a sold-out New Year’s Bash game tonight against the Melbourne Stars.
