Fire Set To Resume WNCL Campaign
The Queensland Fire will resume their 2025-26 Women’s National Cricket League season tomorrow, taking on Tasmania in Hobart.
The squad named could feature four potential debutants for the games tomorrow and on Tuesday.
Included are Wests allrounder Ruby Strange, Wynnum-Manly batter Grace Collins, Wynnum-Manly spinner Clodagh Ryall and Sunshine Coast pace bowler Catherine White.
Three of the possible debutants have strong country cricket backgrounds with Strange (Gladstone), Collins (Maryborough) and White (Childers) learning their craft in regional centres before impressing in the Katherine Raymont Shield in the Queensland Premier Cricket competition.
Strange made her Weber Women’s Big Bash League debut for the Perth Scorchers earlier in the season while White was included in the Brisbane Heat squad late in the competition.
Collins recently featured for the Queensland Under-19 women’s team that won the National titles in Perth, finishing as the team’s leading runs-scorer with 237 runs including a match winning 79 in the final against NSW to go with her 51 in the semi-final against Victoria.
Left-arm spinner Codagh Ryall played for the Brisbane Heat in the T20 Spring Challenge and has played for the Queensland and Australian Indigenous teams in recent seasons.
The Fire will be without captain Jess Jonassen (shoulder) while Grace Harris, Lucy Hamilton and Charli Knott will be in India for the Women’s Premier League tournament.
Leg-spinner Grace Parsons will make her return to the Fire line-up after missing the WBBL following an off-season hiatus from the game.
It will be her first game for the Fire since last season's WNCL Final.
Queensland currently sits one point clear of defending title-holders NSW on top of the WNCL ladder.
