Strong Win For Fire

A new-look Queensland Fire team has extended their Women's National Cricket League lead with a strong win over rivals Tasmania in Hobart.

With Jess Jonassen (shoulder) and Grace Harris, Charli Knott and Lucy Hamilton away in India at the WPL, the Fire also were without Lauren Winfield-Hill who stayed in Brisbane to be with her wife, former Queensland quick Courtney Winfield-Hill, as she gave birth to the couple's first child, a daughter.

Allrounder Ruby Strange and batter Grace Collins made the Queensland debuts in their absence, as young guns Mikayla Wrigley, Lucy Bourke and returning leg-spinner Grace Parsons all produced srtrong showings.

Wrigley (88 off 115) and Bourke (85 off 91) combined for a 128-run stand as each registered their highest scores to date in the WNCL.

The Fire made 293, and backed by vice-captain Sianna Ginger (3-37) and Nicola Hancock (1-40), were able to restrict the home side to 261 and claim a 32-run victory.

Player of the Match Hancock had earlier made 39no to score crucuial lower order runs to set up the winning total.

The two teams meet again tomorrow.
