Campbell Leads Way

Queensland will head into the second half of the domestic season with renewed confidence in its depth after the State's Second XI maintained their unbeaten record this summer with a comfortable win over Western Australia at the WACA.

With the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup underway at the moment in Africa, it was a member of the 2023 World Cup championship squad who stood tall for the Queensland Seconds.

Western Suburbs batter Tom Campbell was the stand-out for Queensland as his efforts of 78 and 146 steered the visitors to a fourth-day victory to make it three outright wins for the season.

Campbell, one of several players in the Second XI who has been honing their skills through the Queensland Cricket Academy this season, featured in key partnerships with Angus Lovell (72) in the first innings and Scott Palombo (66) in the second innings.

Queensland made 286 and 4-309 dec and dismissed the home team for 143 and 199 to deliver a 143-run victory.

The bowling attack also played its part with Canberra recruit Sam Skelly taking 4-51 and 4-47 and fellow paceman Jem Ryan taking two wickets in each innings in his return to the Toyota Second XI after making a successful comeback from back surgery last year.

Bulls squad off-spinner Jack Sinfield was another to catch the eye with 1-7 and 4-54. The Redlands slow bowler now has 20 wickets at 12.85 this season to lead the bowling aggregates in the Second XI competition.
