The Queensland Bulls have called-up Canberra pace bowling recruit Sam Skelly for next week’s important home Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at the Gabba.
Bulls Back To Gabba
Skelly, 26, made his first-class debut for the Bulls earlier this season, performing soundly in the drawn match against NSW at the Gabba where his maiden Shield scalp was former Test batter Sam Konstas.
He is coming off a career-best performance in the Toyota National Second XI competition this week, taking match figures of 13-109 in Queensland’s outright win over Tasmania at Allan Border Field on Thursday..
Skelly is the only change to the 13-player squad that overcame competition front-runners Victoria in a thrilling Shield win at the MCG last week.
He replaces fellow ACT product Benji Floros in the squad.
Left-hander Jack Clayton will miss the match as he manages his return from a knee complaint.
Skelly claimed 6-62 in the first innings and 7-47 in the second as Queensland won by 147 runs, in a result that also featured a match-defining 153no by Gold Coast allrounder Callum Taylor in Queensland's first innings.
Skelly, who moved to Brisbane from Canberra during the off-season and played with Norths in the KFC T20 Max, also represented the Prime Minister's XI against the touring English team in his hometown during the Ashes series.
A right-arm pace bowler, he has previously played Premier Grade cricket in Sydney and Toyota Second XI cricket for the ACT Comets.
This summer he has taken 27 wickets in three Second XI games for Queensland as well as a further four wickets for the ACT in two Second XI matches.
The Bulls sit in second spot on the ladder, where they are 6.65 points ahead of third-placed Tasmania.
Defending champions South Australia sit closely behind the Tigers in fourth spot.
All teams have three matches left in the regular season, with Queensland hosting SA at the Gabba and then Western Australia at Allan Border Field before finishing with an away clash against Tasmania in Hobart.
