Inspiring performances from skipper Marnus Labuschagne and leg-spinner Mitch Swepson have swept the Queensland Bulls to within sight of the One Day Cup Final.
Bulls Break Records!
Labuschagne became the first Queenslander to score four List A centuries in a season, producing a pugnacious 126 to lead the Bulls to 260 against South Australia at the Gabba today.
The Redbacks looked to have the chase in hand before a remarkable effort from Swepson turned the game on its head.
Bowling from the Stanley Street end, Swepson spun the visitors out to finish with a career-best 7-28 from 7.1 overs, eclipsing the record for the best List A figures by a Queenslander in the process.
The record was prevously held by Carl Rackemann, who took 7-34 in a one-day clash in 1988-98, also against South Australia, at the Adelaide Oval. Swepson's return was the third-best of all-time in Australia domestic one-day cricket.
Swepson had twice taken four-wicket hauls in the one-day arena but his efforts today have boosted him to an historic career high point.
SA were dismissed for 9-135, with injured seamer Campbell Thompson unable to bat after suffering a leg injury whie bowling.
The bonus point win put the Bulls in the box seat to take on Tasmania in Hobart next month in the ODC Final, with third-placed NSW needing to beat Tasmania tonight to snatch second spot.
Lauschagne was the difference with the bat, joining with Lachlan Hearne (41) for a 92-run partnership after the Bulls had slumped to 3-41 following SA's decision to bowl first upon winning the toss.
Labuschagne also shared in a 71-run stand with Hugh Weibgen (26).
He crunched 11 fours and one mighty third tier six down the ground towards Stanley Street.
Labuschagne finished with 468 runs from six one-day games this season.
