The Queensland Bulls will welcome back T20 World Cup batter Matthew Renshaw for tomorrow’s important Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia at Allan Border Field.
Renshaw Returns For Bulls
Renshaw, who has made his ODI and T20I debuts for Australia this season, comes into a 14-player squad that will be finalised at the toss tomorrow.
Fellow T20 World Cup teammate Xavier Bartlett will miss the match as he focuses on his availability for the final regular season Shield clash next weekend against Tasmania in Hobart.
With tight turnarounds between the remaining two games and the Shield Final in Melbourne at the end of the month, the Bulls will manage the workloads of pacemen Michael Neser and Tom Straker.
With Neser and Straker missing the game, allrounder Jack Wildermuth and paceman Benji Floros come into the extended squad, along with off-spinner Jack Sinfield.
Queensland Cricket Chair of Selectors Chris Hartley said there were several factors determining selections at this stage of the season.
“It’s been a big summer for Michael with his Ashes involvement, while Tom is in his second season and as a young quick, we are mindful to balance and manage his bowling,’’ he said.
“Xavier Bartlett is coming back from an extensive white ball campaign, so he needs a longer build-up to prepare for a first-class return.”
“Fortunately, we have been able to have Jack Wildermuth come back into the group for the back end of the season and his experience and skill will be very beneficial,” Hartley said.
After missing the Shield loss to South Australia last month, batter Jack Clayton made a successful return from a knee issue on Monday, batting for the Queensland Academy against the Premier Cricket Allstars in a day/night limited overs game.
The Bulls sit in a second spot on the ladder and with Victoria wrapping-up hosting rights in the last round, will seek to press their claims for a spot in the Final with all teams to play two more regular season games.
The match will be streamed live through the CricketLive app, cricket.com.au and Kayo. SportFM from Perth will also provide radio coverage online.
