Jess Jonassen’s 100th WNCL match had the ideal outcome, with the Allan Border Field faithful enjoying her efforts as Queensland dismissed Victoria for 104 in 31.2 overs and then chased down the total in style.
Jonassen (41no) and player of the match Charli Knott (31no & 3-8) helped reach the total in just 14.1 overs with only captain Georgia Redmayne (22) dismissed as their WNCL net run-rate received a sizable boost.
The Fire’s win elevated them back into second place, with the result of tomorrow night’s last regular season game between WA and ACT in Perth to determine whether Queensland qualify for their second Final in as many seasons against NSW.
It was spin to win for the second game in a row, with leg-spinner Grace Parsons bowling 10 overs straight to finish with 3-34 as she and Knott prompted the visitors’ collapse from 3-63 to 8-76.
Jonassen (2-12) took the new ball and then opened the batting to ensure a memorable result for the team.
She receved a special '100' cap from fellow 100-gamer Melissa Bulow, and a framed Fire jersey from CEO Terry Svenson in a moving pre-game presentation in front of her teammates, family and friends.
