Premier Finals On Track

The final weeks of the 2025-26 KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition have begun to deliver trophies and grand final appearances across the grades.

Western Suburbs won back-to-back Katherine Raymont Shields with a win in the Final over Wynnum-Manly, which was making their first appearance in the one-day decider following on from their KFC T20 Max title earlier in the season.

Northern Suburbs will also chase back-to-back titles, taking on the Gold Coast at Allan Border Field over the next two weeks for the right to retain the Cam Battersby Cup for two-day premiers.

At Allan Border Field, Wests were able to restrict Wynnum-Mabnly to 198 (Abi McCray 41, Hannah Tucker 37no), with Townsville off-spinner Brooke Morrish taking 4-36 and fellow teen Ayaka Stafford claiming 2-27 from her 10 overs.

A captain's knock from Ruby Strange ensured the Sea Eagles did not have the opportunity to apply pressure with the ball, as her run-a-ball 68 not out finished off a solid openiing stand by Trinity Doyle (32) and Australia and Queensland Fire star Grace Harris (45 from 30 balls) to help deliver a match-winning total of 4-202.

Strange claimed the Julia Price Medal as player of the final and then accepted the Katherine Raymont Shield from QC Life Member Katherine Raymont.

In the Jodie Purves Second Grade Shield, Gold Coast claimed the title with a hard fought win over South Brisbane.

The Vikings defeated Sunshine Coast in their men's semi-final over the weekend while Gold Coast swept past Valley in the other semi.

As was the case in last year's Final, Norths overcame a gallant Scorchers line-up. In spite of a Blake Maher century, emulating his feats with the bat in last summer's decider, paceman Sam Neale's  5-55 gave Norths a shot at chasing down the target.

Kendel Fleming's 78 not out capped off key knocks by Queensland paceman Sam Skelly (33) and 37 from Zac Perren, the England-based son of former Bulls champion Clinton, when the Scorchers threatend to get on top.

Norths finished with 7-286.

Outstanding individual efforts from Ashton Gumm and Zak McDermott confirmed the Gold Coast's premiership credentials as they overcame Valley in the other semi-final.

Gumm hit a composed 108 to help Gold Coast to 282 before McDermott dominated the Valley batting, charging to a career best first grade haul of 7-33 to dismiss Valley for 148.

McDermott and new ball partner Sam Chapman (3-43) claimed all 10 wickets to fall.
