Queensland will blaze new ground in international cricket as well as provide a first-time venue for Ashes rival England when they return to the Gold Coast for the first time in decades.
Gabba, Gold Coast Set For T20Is
The release of the 2026-27 International schedule today by Cricket Australia outlines a summer plan that 27 matches in 14 venues across eight action-packed months.
Queensland and Australian batter Matthew Renshaw spoke with media earlier today on the Gold Coast and a VNR is available to download.
Queensland will make history in August when Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay hosts its inaugural Test match, with Australia taking on Bangladesh in the Second Test of the series.
The Bangladesh series will be played in Darwin (Marrara Stadium, 13-17 August 2026) and Mackay (Great Barrier Reef Arena, 22-26 August 2026).
Great Barrier Reef Arena at Mackay’s Harrup Park will join the Brisbane Exhibition Ground, the Gabba and Cazalys in Cairns as Queensland Test cricket venues.
Gold Coast Stadium at Carrara will also enjoy a slice of history with England to play its first International men’s fixture at the venue.
The England Ashes touring party played a memorable game at Carrara in 1990-91 when Queensland met them in a first-class match, and the England Lions have played a tour game there in 2019.
The T20 International series will see England play five matches in Australia, with the Gold Coast hosting the tourists on Tuesday 24 November and the Gabba hosting England on Friday 27 November.
The Gold Coast successfully hosted India in a T20 International in November last year with more than 20,000 fans attending the game.
Brisbane will also host the entire three match Women’s ODI series against Bangladesh, with three day/night matches at Allan Border Field from 9-14 October.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the milestone matches in Mackay and on the Gold Coast would provide memorable moments for fans in Queensland.
“We congratulate and thank all our partners who have worked closely to confirm these matches,’’ he said.
“We look forward to engaging further with Cricket Australia to ensuring even more international cricket is played in Queensland in the coming years as we approach the 2032 Games.
“Queensland Cricket thanks the Queensland Government for their continued support of our sport while the backing of Councils throughout the State remains vital to delivering world class events in regional centres,’’ Svenson said.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate welcomed another big international fixture to the city.
“We’re thrilled to bring another blockbuster international cricket match to the Gold Coast, with Australia set to take on England this November,” said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
“After the success of last year’s Australia vs India match, this is another big win for our city and reinforces the Gold Coast’s reputation as a premier major sporting events destination.
It’s also a fantastic opportunity to welcome visitors from the UK, one of our most important international tourism markets and showcase everything our city has to offer.”
